BREATHING WHILE EXERCISING

Just Breathe.

Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. Place one hand on your chest and the other on your belly. Focus on where your breath is. Let your breath calm you. Let it bring light and energy to your body from the top of your head all the way down to your toes. Now close your eyes, and breathe.

How do you feel after an exercise like that? Breathing can be so powerful.

In barre, breathing is not as regimented as it is in Pilates or yoga, but your breath is still very important. ⁣

Too often we tend to hold our breath to ‘get through’ an exercise. However, studies have shown that breath holding during exercise can increase the risk of injury and weaken the effectiveness of the moves. ⁣

Use your breath AS A TOOL to help further engage your muscles and deepen your potential. (Think, “fill the space” when engaging belly button to spine and exhaling) After a few classes, you should start to pick up on habits like exhaling through the hardest part of your moves (especially core!) or to go deeper into a stretch. ⁣

This week, try focusing on your breath during your workouts and check back in! How did you feel about the effectiveness, muscle engagement, soreness afterward? We want to hear your thoughts!

As always, we want to hear from you! What are YOUR best breathing tips and tricks?
